colored pencil.

I fell in love with colored pencils recently. I had no idea that something I associated with the 5th grade could produce such realistic renderings. It takes a lot of time...slowly layering and burnishing (a fancy term for slowly shading until the waxes and pigments mix and form a solid layer on the paper) for about 4 hours each drawing...but completely worth it. I hope to do some more soon, but here are my first few.

I really wanted to capture the dramatic lighting from the orgininal photo in this one, so I decided to use just white on gray. His right arm was getting lost though, So I added the block of color...I love how it turned out.

This one was based off of a photo of my friend, Newell. She has some of the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen and I wanted to capture one close-up.

  4. Eri, Your pics are so beautiful. I wish I could do that! I love looking at them all. Love the pics you drew for me. I still am finding a place for the tiger one and I hung up the flower one on my wall. Mwa.
